About the Project
Brand Director: Rafael Rodriguez

229 Church is an upcoming church plant based in Thomasville, Georgia, led by Pastors Devin and Storm Bass. With a vision centered around community, connection, and movement, 229 Church exists to create a space where people can belong, grow, and encounter Jesus in a real and transformative way.

Design Church Co. partnered with 229 Church to develop a bold and modern visual identity system ahead of launch. The goal was to build a brand that felt both culturally aware and deeply rooted in the mission of reaching people across Thomasville and the surrounding region. In a smaller Southern city where relationships and trust matter deeply, the brand needed to communicate clarity, warmth, authenticity, and momentum simultaneously.

Our approach leaned heavily into editorial-inspired typography, high contrast visuals, street-inspired design language, and messaging that emphasized togetherness and mission. Throughout the discovery process, themes like unity, compassion, kinship, discipleship, communion, and community consistently surfaced as core pillars of the church’s identity.

The resulting brand system captures the energy of a movement rather than simply a local organization. Through oversized typography, striking yellow and black palettes, layered graphic treatments, and authentic imagery, the identity communicates urgency, presence, and connection. Messaging such as “Unity is Community,” “For the 229,” and “Go to the Streets” became anchor statements that helped shape the overall direction and voice of the brand.

Work Banner-2

The final identity system was designed to flex across social media, merchandise, signage, environmental graphics, launch materials, and future ministry expansion. More than just visuals, the brand positions 229 Church as a church for the city: visible, relational, modern, and deeply committed to people.
