From Discovery Call to Launch: What It's Actually Like to Work With Design Church
For a lot of pastors, hiring a creative partner feels like a leap of faith. You are about to hand someone the story of your church, your vision, and a real portion of your budget. And if you have been burned before by a designer who went quiet or delivered something that looked nothing like you, that leap feels even bigger.
We get it. So we want to pull back the curtain and show you exactly what working with Design Church Co. looks like, from the first conversation to launch day.
Step 01: The Discovery Call
Everything starts with a conversation. On a Discovery Call, we are not trying to sell you a package. We are trying to understand you. Who is your church? What has God put on your heart? Who are you trying to reach? What is working, and what is not?
Sometimes a church comes in asking for a logo and leaves realizing they actually need clarity first. Sometimes a ministry thinks they need a full rebrand when a website refresh would serve them better. Our job on that first call is to listen well and point you toward the right fit, whether that is a Branding Package, a Launch Kit, a website, Design Church EQUIP™, or a monthly partnership through Design Church+.
Step 02: Meet Your Project Team
Once you are ready to move forward, we assemble your Project Team. You get one Project Manager who keeps your timeline and tasks moving and one Brand Director who leads the creative direction of the entire project. Behind them, we bring in the specific designers, writers, and specialists your project needs.
You will always know who to talk to. You will never have to explain your vision to a rotating cast of strangers.
Step 03: Strategy Before Design
We do not open a design program until we understand the occasion. Depending on your package, this includes a Brand Design Consultation and a mood boarding session where we explore the feeling, tone, and visual direction of your brand together.
This is where the real work happens. We ask questions about your city, your expected audience, your culture, and your calling. We look for the central idea that everything else can be built around. As our team likes to say, brand design without strategy is style without purpose.
Step 04: Design and Refine
Now we create. Your Brand Director guides the team through concepts, and we present our work with the thinking behind it, not just the pictures. You will see why every choice was made.
Then we refine together. Every package includes dedicated revision rounds, and your Project Manager keeps those rounds organized so feedback stays clear and timelines stay on track.
A quick tip for this stage: the most helpful feedback is tied to your mission, not just personal taste. "This feels too corporate for the families we are trying to reach" will move the project further than "I don't love green."
Step 05: Launch
When your brand is ready, we hand you more than files. Depending on your package, you receive your full logo suite, color palette, typography, brand voice, and a brand guide (our Essentials Brand Guide or the more comprehensive Brand Identity Handbook™) so your staff and volunteers can use the brand well long after we are done.
We want you to walk away with brand design that points people to Jesus and the confidence to use it.
What We Ask of You
Great projects are partnerships. Here is what helps us serve you best:
- A clear decision maker. Design by committee slows everything down. Identify who has the final say.
- Honest feedback. If something does not feel like you, tell us. We would much rather hear it early.
- Timely responses. Your Project Manager will keep things moving, and quick replies keep your launch date safe.
- Prayer. We genuinely believe the Holy Spirit is the ultimate creative behind this work. Pray for your project, and know that we are praying too.
After Launch
For many churches, launch day is the beginning of the relationship, not the end. Some of our partners continue with Design Church+, our monthly design subscription, so their sermon series, social graphics, signage, and website updates stay consistent with the brand we built together.
One agency. One relationship. Brand design that points people to Jesus.
